1958 Dual Ghia Convertible
One of Approximately 117 Produced
Dual Ghia's were purchased by the rich and famous of the late 50's and early 60’s, people such as Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin and Ronald Reagan who lost his in a high stakes poker game to Lyndon Johnston. This rare and exotic creation was a spin-off of the Chrysler show car called the Firearrow that was designed by Virgil Exner. This show car created such a sensation at their debut that the public demanded a production version. While Chrysler declined to capitalize on this opportunity, Eugene Casaroll negotiated for and successfully acquired the rights to build a car based on this unique design. Eugene Casaroll’s Dual Motors Company, based in
Detroit
shipped modified Dodge chassis to
Italy
, upon which Ghia fitted the handmade bodies that were hammered into shape over wooden bucks. They were then shipped back to
Detroit
to Dual Motors to be fitted with engine and transmission. Their performance was outstanding for this era as they were powered by a 315 Ci short stroke D 500 Hemi engine mated to a two speed Powerflite transmission. It is said that Dual Motors lost money of every one built because it refused to compromise on quality. The bulk of the cars built were the convertible model which sold for $7,646 or about $1000 more then the ultra-luxurious Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz.
The first known owner of chassis #191 was Mrs. Grace Danko of
Woodstock
,
New York
. In fact #191 stayed in the
New York area
for many years and was sold to Mr Peter Balis of
Baliston
Lake
who then sold it sold it to Wayne Huie of
Memphis
,
Tennessee
. Mr. Huie ultimately sold 191 to an enthusiast in
Canada where
it has resided ever since.
Beautifully presented in every respect, the car has been professionally restored to show quality condition. Finished in striking eggplant paint, that was its original color when it left the factory and fitted with chrome Kelsey Hayes wire wheels. As this was later production model, it is was built without the rear fins but does have the dual fender mounted antennas. The interior is a perfect compliment to the body color, done in burgundy and cream leather.
Given the quality of its restoration this Dual Ghia is truly once in a life time opportunity to purchase a rare piece of history or for anyone looking for a unique investment opportunity.
