Shelby GT-500E
Custom
Built, Supercharged 408 cid & 5 Speed
When the movie Gone in 60 Seconds was released
in 2001, the real star of the show turned out to be one of the cars. Custom
created, based loosely on a 1967 Shelby GT-500, the “Eleanor” car instantly
grabbed the attention of the car enthusiasts and very quickly, companies were
creating “Eleanor” cars for customers with builds ranging from mild to
completely insane.
This GT-500 E leans closer the insane side with
touches of sensibleness, it was custom built from the ground up, starting with
a solid foundation in a 1967 Mustang fastback. The build would include lowered
and stiffened suspension front and rear, Baer disc brakes front and rear,
Currie 9” axle with 3.25 gear and posi, finished in Pepper Grey metallic/black
stripes as well as all “Eleanor” specific gauges, “Go-Baby-Go” shifter, lights
and body kit with integrated functional side exit exhaust. However, the center
piece of this build, as is often the case, remains the drive-train, a 351
Windsor based small block stroked to 408 cubic inches with a Paxton Novi 1200
Supercharger; the whole package is good for 613 hp, all put to the Currie axle
via a Tremec TKO 5 speed transmission. Power steering, air conditioning, modern
audio system, comfortable tall bucket seats make the drivers seat of this car
that much more pleasurable place to be while also being functional with good
side bolsters for more aggressive driving. The “Eleanor” GT-500 is an
unmistakable design with its look reaching farther than being just another
movie car. The combination of the
Shelby
heritage with the modern appearance and accouterments make this car an
incredible example to be driven and enjoyed. Having seen limited road use to this
point, this remains a very fresh car with many years and miles ahead
