Frame Off Restored LS6
454/450hp M22 4spd with Build Sheet
At the
height of the muscle car era, the gloves were really off. Every manufacturer
was stuffing 400+ cubic inches in their best midsize cars and going racing.
Factory ratings for horsepower were notoriously low for insurance purposes, so
when Chevrolet introduced the LS6 454 as a regular option on the Chevelle SS
rated at 450hp; people knew they had a strong runner on their hands.
Beautifully
restored in its factory correct colour of Fathom Blue with white stripes and
black interior, this 1970 Chevelle SS was originally ordered by Gordon Butler
Chevrolet in LowellMassachusetts. Built to handle the power, this
Chevelle is equipped with a numbers matching LS6 454 and to get that power to
the ground, a Muncie “Rock Crusher” M22 4 speed was
chosen with a 4.10 gear equipped posi rear end. F41 suspension, power disc
brakes and a heavy duty battery round out the short but sweet list of options
selected for this SS. The car benefited from a complete frame off ground up
restoration ensuring that the car looks as well as it performs. All options
shown on the car are fully documented by a build sheet, taken from the rear
seat of the car during its restoration. A fantastic example of what the muscle
car consumer was shopping for, a pure, no nonsense brute with the largest
engine available, the bulletproof drivetrain to back it up and the looks that
cannot be ignored.
