1961 Daimler SP-250

Beautifully Restored B-Spec Roadster

Introduced in March 1959 at the New York Auto Show, the Daimler Dart would quickly be named the Daimler Sport (SP) 250. With the design based around almost every other roadster of the time, from Triumphs chassis to the Corvette style Fibreglass body placed on it, Daimler attempted to take the best of everything out there. The one very unique part of the SP-250 was the motor, a 2.5L Hemi head style power plant; developing 140hp, making them capable of a top speed of 120mp/h, and potent enough to be used by British Police Officers for pursuit duty. Daimler was purchased by Jaguar in 1961, resulting in two model names, Spec B and Spec C with some significant chassis strength upgrades, until the low volume model was discontinued in 1964 with only 2,645 being built over the 6 year production run.

Originally sold new in Toronto, 1961, this eye catching “B-Spec” model remained with its original owner until 1977. Having spent 9 years in storage, when the second owner took possession, a simple tune up, battery and fresh brakes got the car back on the road until the mid 1990’s when it was dismantled and then beautifully restored from the ground up into the show winner you see today. Painted a very appropriate vibrant shade of red with complimenting and correct tan leather interior, all with matching tan top and tonneau cover, the car is powered by the famous 2.5 litre hemi V8 engine which has also been freshly restored to stock specifications, with the only upgrade in the driveline being a stronger Sunbeam Tiger rear end for added strength. Having taken 1st place in class at the British Invasion show in Vermont, 2007, it runs and drives as beautifully as it shows. This very unique Daimler has remained under the watchful care of its second owner for the past 32 years and thus comes with full documentation of history as well as the restoration including detailed photos. Now it is ready for the next chapter in owner history, to be enjoyed and driven on sunny summer afternoons, turning heads and raising interest everywhere it’s seen.
