The story of the COPO (Central Office Production
Order) Camaros is well known among muscle car enthusiast. The ability to order
specially equipped high performance cars, unknown to the general public, it was
a loop hole around the rules of GM. Making the average iron block 427 Camaro
look an everyday occurrence is COPO option code 9560, or ZL1 as it’s better
known.
With only 69 produced all together, ZL1’s are the
rarest, and the baddest Camaro’s every built. With an all aluminum (block and
heads) 427 cubic inch motor, they were light and fast. With only professional
racers in mind, the cost of this optional drivetrain was an astronomical $4,160,
more than the price of a base model V8 Camaro!!!!!! This absolutely stunning
Fathom Green example has been authenticated by noted Camaro specialists as a real ZL1, leading to its complete rotisserie restoration. It has great
owner history and always brings up the one inevitable question when viewed in
the showroom, “Is that real?!?!”.
