1969 Buick GS 400 Stage 1
Very rare car 4 speed with A/C
The chassis of the GS was revamped for 1968, becoming smaller in size which also reflected on an increase in popularity. The 400 cubic-inch engine remained the same while the 340 was enlarged to 350 cubic-inches. At the time
Buick said the Stage I engine with the Ram Air had increased HP output by 8% and torque by 6% but never revised its ratings to keep the insurance costs in check. Popular Automotive magazines of the day were also saying they were underrated and had a much higher actual output
This original un-restored car is one of only 415 built with the Muncie 4 Speed transmission and Stage 1 400 engine, but what makes this car stand out are some of the options such as factory installed A/C. All of the features seen here are fully documented with its dealer invoice, original bill of sale, build sheet, Protect-O-Plate and owner’s manual. It is in original un-molested condition and has been meticulously kept by its previous owners. Equipped with the numbers matching, new for 1969 Stage 1, 400CID engine with Ram Air rated at 345 HP at 5800
RPM. More importantly is its 4.040 bore combined with 3.900 stroke which makes for a huge 440 Foot Pounds of torque at only 3200
RPM. Because this motor made such high torque numbers at low revs these cars were very quick off the line and the engines lasted a long time. Painted in its factory correct # 50 Polar White, showing the perfect degree of patina from the years of enjoyment and care with black vinyl interior surrounding the requisite Hurst floor shifter, power steering and power front disc brakes with 3.42 ratio Posi-traction rear differential feeding power to the period correct Polyglas tires. If you’re looking for an unmolested, original car that’s a little different from the Camaro’s, Chevelle’s and Mustangs out there, don’t miss your chance to buy this rare bird.
