1970
Buick GSX Stage 1
The
Icon of Buick Performance
At the height of the muscle car wars, Buick
decided to step into the ring with both feet, what showed up would become known
as one of the most powerful muscle cars produced that year. The introduction of
the GSX model brought along a very distinctive striping, front and rear spoiler
package that also included a special hood, performance suspension, instrument
panels and even a hood mounted tach. Add to that the optional, new for 1970 455
Stage 1 motor, you got a very striking muscle car with 510 lb/ft of torque
right off the dealers lot.
This Saturn Yellow example has been meticulously
restored from the ground up. When the order was placed for this restoration, it
was agreed upon that it had to be a Gold Certified car upon completion, after
being judged at the Buick Nationals, that part of the agreement was easily
fulfilled. Documented with paperwork from Wayne Roberts as a point of
reference, this factory Stage 1, 4-speed car is one of only 118 so equipped;
all the proper GSX accoutrements are also present and accounted for, from the
hood tach to the special striping, this is a striking Buick. Being among the
rarest of the Stage 1 Buicks, the excellent documentation including the
previously mentioned documentation and Nationals judging sheets combined with a
very well detailed frame off restoration really sets this apart as a very
special Buick GSX Stage 1
.
