Upon the introduction of the Auburn 8-98, Business Week
declared it was “more car for the money than the public had ever seen”, the
public responded with an incredible sales boost. The 8-98 came with 4 hydraulic
drum brakes, 268 cu.in. inline 8 cylinder engine producing 98hp and a 3 speed
transmission on a 127” wheelbase. For an additional $200, the buyer could opt
for the “custom” or “8-98A” model, it featured a heavy X brace frame and had
other options available such as dual ratio rear axle, wire wheels, upgraded
interior and extra trim.
Found as part of a local collection, this
beautifully maintained 8-98A was lovingly cared for over many years of
ownership. Having been stored for several years, this stunning Phaeton was
again brought out into the daylight, after a thorough polishing, it shines like
a new penny and runs like the day it was stored. Its inline 8 cylinder engine
fired back to life with little effort, and even all electrical gauges and
lights functioning as they should. After many years of ownership, this
magnificent example of 1930’s class and grace is ready for the next chapter in
its long and storied life.
