LMC is very proud to offer this 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro
The legendary COPO Camaro’s produced in 1969 are among the most sought-after Camaros ever factory built. Unlike many performance cars of the time, these Camaros carried absolutely no external identification starting the engine size or horsepower. With their incredible performance from the L72 427 and the rarity of not even being an advertised option, they have an incredible following. It is often said that Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, with that in mind it is no surprise that many Camaros are restored as COPO’s, some done so well it takes a sharp eye to tell them from the documented cars.
The Central Office Production Order (COPO) process was a method for dealers or GM itself to request the manufacture of vehicles configured differently than the previously planned models for that model year. As GM had a corporate policy that limited F body and X body cars to 400 cubic inch engines, special dealers used the COPO process to get around this policy and install the best GM high performance engines into their favorite platforms. Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, Michigan was one of the most notable high-performance dealers in country.
This particular 1969 COPO Camaro was one of the few sold new at the famous Berger Chevrolet in September 1969. Factory ordered in the eye catching Rallye Green paint with white interior and white sport striping. Open the hood and you will find the numbers matching L72 427/425hp COPO engine backed by the numbers matching Muncie M21 4 speed. Subtle in its appearance with rally wheels, cowl induction hood and a rear spoiler, you have the typical appearance a COPO. Other options include Sport Striping, Power Disc Brakes, Am Radio, Chin Spoiler, and Style Trim Group. Amazingly the car would be retained by its original owner for 40 years to the day of his original purchase.
The quality of this car is show quality with beautiful polished paint, new interior and a detailed undercarriage. This car comes fully documented with Protect-O-Plate, Owner’s Manual, Shipper Report and Original Bank Information. A perfect car for the collector looking for a beautiful example of an original documented COPO Camaro.
